Cutworms
Identification tips: Grayish or black, 1 inch long, and commonly curl into a C-shape when disturbed; look for holes chewed in leaves and stems.

Identification tips: Small brown or black beetles that jump readily; look for numerous small holes in leaves or along leaf veins.

Seedcorn maggot
Identification tips: Mature larvae are small whitish maggots; pupae are small brown capsules; adult is light gray fly; maggot feeding will cause slow and spotty stalk emergence.

Sugarbeet wireworm larvae.
Wireworms
Identification tip: Slender, elongate, yellowish to brown with smooth, tough skin; resemble mealworms; seed and root feeders; look in the soil where stands are spotty.
