How to Manage Pests

The UC Guide to Healthy Lawns

Prepare the site and plant turf

Planting a new lawn requires careful planning and preparing. Consider your site: How will the lawn be used? Where will the high traffic areas be? Where might shade or low spots pose potential problems? Your choice of planting method (from seed, sod, stolons, sprigs, or plugs) depends on the species of grass desired, the surrounding environment, and time and money considerations. You will avoid future problems by preparing the planting bed and installing the irrigation system properly before you plant.
