Fertilizing fruit and shade trees and shrubs
Most established trees and shrubs do not require routine fertilizer. Exceptions include fruit and nut trees, palms, and heavily-flowering shrubs. Overfertilization can cause excessive growth leading to more frequent pruning, increase the need for water, and encourage pests. Fertilizer should only be applied as needed.
