Family Rosaceae (Rose family)

Plant identification

Pyracantha spp. are evergreen shrubs ranging in size from 1.5 to 15 feet depending upon species. They are known for producing colorful berries in the winter. They can be used as barriers, hedgerows, espaliers, and screens and the low-growing types as groundcovers.

*Some species are invasive weeds. Other types of plants may be better choices when planting.

Optimum conditions for growth

The climatic zone for Pyracantha varies by species. They do best in full sun with moderate water. They are hardy shrubs and fast growing.
